I chose to sign up for Diigo over Delicious as I was able to locate more educator groups with like interests. I love that with diigo I can manage information and organize it by tags. I enjoyed highlighting articles and making annotations. I also like that I can save articles to read later. The
websites I bookmarked are:
www.arcademicskillbuilders.com
www.teachscienceandmath.com
The first provides lots of fun math games my students will love to use. The second provides many educational articles about the use of technology in teaching and tools for implementing this.

Tool 4: Cool Google Tools
1. I created a Daily Schedule for 2010-2011 in Google Docs and shared it with my team member, Elizabeth.
2. I have set up my Google Reader with subscriptions for 5 of my Sherwood co-workers and also for Cool Cat Teacher. I am also following Click2Houston for local news updates.
3. I think that using Google Docs allows me to share with coworkers without sending as an e-mail attachment. Also I can access my Google Docs from anywhere - no need to carry around my flash drive or laptop. Google Reader will keep me up to date with my teaching partners and can allow students to follow their hobbies or interests.

Tool 3: Image Generator and Mashups
I chose the Wordle tool to present the Physical Science vocabulary in a unique way. I think my students will enjoy playing with this tool and experimenting with color, style and fonts while learning some new vocabulary.

The second tool I used was from Big Huge Labs and is called - Sunset. With this tool students can locate sunrise and sunset and moon phases for any location on earth. This will enable students to see how the moon phases change in different parts of the world and reinforces the concept of Earth's rotation.

Tool 2: Building Community and Comments
1. Building an educational community and creating my own PLN (Personal Learning Network) will open new doors for me and my students. I look forward to sharing with other teachers their
techniques and strategies for helping students to be successful. I envision my students sharing their thoughts and ideas on our PLN about concepts covered in class. Karen Szymusiak's observations on the changing role of the teacher as an "expert learner" really struck a chord with me as I see myself always taking on new challenges and stretching myself as I grow older. I think students need to know that the teacher is a lifelong learner as well.
2. From the commenting advice I learned that being a lurker is easy and that commenting is a way to share your views with the blogger and other subscribers. In the "10 Techniques to Get More Comments" article I think the most important point was to be gracious, humble and most importantly, controversial. By creating controversy, a dialogue opens up and sparks interest and debate between the bloggers. Sounds like fun.
3. The five blogs I selected to comment on are those of my fellow Sherwood teachers - Impending Technology; Something else to do; Kathy's Blog; and Fatigued Teacher. I also commented to Cool Cat Teacher's blog as she has so much to share on the idea of PLN's. I imagine that I will be adding to this list very soon.

Tool 1: Blog Set-Up and Registration
Starting this blog was both fun and challenging for me. I enjoyed creating the background and layout for my blog and especially creating my unique Voki avatar. The many steps to getting this first step done were challenging for me but I had lots of help and support from our techno savvy librarian. I look forward to continuing my learning experience with my blog and hope my students will have as much fun and learn from each other.
